Intensive Spanish: Groups or one-to-one language programs
Intensive Spanish language programs can be roughly divided up into two types: those that offer classes in groups, and those that offer one-to-one or private lessons, that is to say, just one teacher and one student in each class. There are several matters to consider when deciding which type of the many intensive Spanish courses might be better for you. As far as deciding between group or one-to-one classes, the cost element should not be the only deciding factor. There is a general rule that the larger the class, then the less expensive the program. There is also another general rule: the larger the adult language class, the less effective the tuition. When looking for intensive Spanish courses for adults, many people automatically choose group classes. They remember how they learnt foreign languages in their school years: in a group of perhaps twenty to thirty pupils. If it was possible to study Spanish or French in these circumstances as a child, why should it not be possible to do the same later on in adult life? Why not choose intensive Spanish language programs with groups of six to ten participants? The first thing to consider is that when we were all at school in our early years, we formed a more homogeneous group at say age ten or eleven, then the very same set of people twenty five years later at the age of thirty five or thirty six. As we grow up, and move out into the adult world, our individual experiences colour our senses and our learning abilities. Our motivations and characters become firmly set, as do the way we capture and process information. In a class of the same nationality at a school offering intensive Spanish language programs, those who have pursued musical hobbies (and thus have a well trained ear), or those who have already mastered another foreign language, will have an immense advantage compared to those who have not. In the same manner, those people who attended university at some stage of their lives, and whose mind is accustomed to absorbing and processing large amounts of information, will find it easier to study intensive Spanish in Barcelona than those who did not. Another complicating factor of group classes is to be found in the many different nationalities present in the group classes of intensive Spanish language programs. Persons whose mother tongues have Latin as a base will find it much easier to study Spanish in Barcelona than those who do not. Even dividing people into groups according to their abilities is often not satisfactory. Europeans learning another European language will invariably progress more rapidly in a couple of days than say Asians studying the same language with them. Intensive spanish language programs A final factor to take into account, when considering intensive Spanish language programs in groups, is the highly different motivational profiles each individual participant might present. Some participants might be studying Spanish as a way to occupy a few months before a new job. For others the reasons to study Spanish in Barcelona might lie in their retirement plans, or they might need the language for their business. These factors by themselves will cause the more highly motivated students to progress more rapidly than the less motivated student when studying intensive Spanish in Spain. For these reasons any adult interested in Spanish courses for professionals, should consider first and foremost intensive Spanish language programs that are one-to-one. These language programs in Barcelona will offer the best return on the investment in time and money.
